Digital media, which are constitutive of media environments, are infiltrating people's day to day communication experiences with their increasingly interactive, personalized, and seamlessly convenient capabilities. Digitally mediated communication continues to grow with every technology update, rising as an influential wave that is enveloping both traditional outlets of mass communication and the individuals who regularly use digital media platforms (DMPs). Research regarding the liminal space that Millennial DMP users exist in when communicating interpersonally and online is limited. The following research study examines 14 DMP user perceptions of the visual communication and conversation dynamics that occur on three popular social DMPs Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The purpose of this study is to strengthen and expand understandings of the influences that communication dynamics in digitally mediated environments have on interpersonal communication. Findings place a spotlight on the DMP user's perception and understanding of competing relationships existing between mediated and interpersonal communication dynamics.
