This dissertation is a comparative study of three geographically disparate African hip hop websites: Africanhiphop.com in Amsterdam, Netherlands, AfricasGateway.com in Cape Town, South Africa, and Okayafrica.com in New York, United States. Using these three case studies, this research examines the recent expansion of the African Middleclass and corresponding developments in African youth culture to determine how technological, social, economic and political transformations in Sub-Saharan Africa since the 1990s known as "Africa Rising" have altered what it means to be African.
