The concept of post-activation potentiation (PAP) is still novel from a training perspective and lacks breadth relative to Olympic lifting. Unfortunately, the existing literature is equivocal and the impact on performance remains unknown. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of a conditioning activity (clean high pull) on the performance of a main activity (squat clean) for 12 minutes after the conditioning activity. METHODS: Nine college students who engaged in weightlifting (M = 3, F = 6) performed 3 different testing sessions establish a 1-RM for clean and data was gather related to the different conditions. GymAware was used to track peak power, mean power, peak velocity, mean velocity, and bar height. A 2 x 9 repeated measures ANOVA was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: There was no interaction or main effect for condition. However, there was a significant main effect for time. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study are incongruent with previous literature. A potential reasoning for this could be the result of the population that was utilized, as well as the small sample size. Therefore, recommendations for future studies could include utilizing a more elite population along with having a 1-RM squat session to ensure all potential participants can squat at least 2x their body weight.
