Supercomplexity in Interaction
An Introduction to the 4Es /[electronic resource] :by Victoria Orange. - 1st ed. 2019. - XI, 132 p. 4 illus., 3 illus. in color.online resource.
Chapter 1: Complex and supercomplex systems -- Chapter 2: Supercomplexity in Interaction: the 4Es -- Chapter 3: The 4E Expression -- Chapter 4: The 4E Encounter -- Chapter 5: The 4E Education -- Chapter 6: The 4E Emotion -- Chapter 7: Teaching about Supercomplexity in Interaction.
“Victoria Orange has written a must-read book for anyone who is interested in developing a renewed understanding of interaction. Through an interesting and non-traditional angle, the book uses a pluridiscipinary approach and a new concept - i.e. Expression, Encounter, Education and Emotion (the 4Es) - to think about the supercomplexity of interaction. I find the book highly useful for understanding and researching the interactive aspect of experience, communication and society”. --Zhuomin Huang, Senior Tutor in Education, Manchester Institute of Education (MIE), The University of Manchester, UK “I believe that Victoria Orange’s book Supercomplexity in Interaction is a vital tool for becoming acquainted with the system of interaction. As a professional working in the field of international business communication I constantly come into contact with many different kinds of people and realise that interaction is extremely complicated in many ways, more ways than we may realise as we live our professional and personal lives. I am positive that this book will be extremely useful for many practitioners and students who are interested in this field.” --Denisa Galeštoková, International Recruitment Consultant, Hays This book aims to explore the supercomplexity of interaction and to suggest ways of teaching about this supercomplexity in various settings, including intercultural communication and language-learning. Using complex systems theory, the author argues that interaction is actually a supercomplex adaptive system which interconnects a number of different complex systems (the 4Es: Expression, Encounter, Education, Emotion) to give it meaning. She then draws on the concept of heartfulness to promote different ways of understanding and teaching the supercomplexity of interaction. This book will be of interest to language educators and students, as well as scholars of intercultural communication. Victoria Orange is Lecturer in International Business Communication in the School of Language and Global Studies at the University of Central Lancashire, UK. She also teaches Intercultural Communication at the University of Montpellier, France. Victoria has devoted her career to increasing the comfort, confidence and competence of people working in multicultural environments, specializing in intercultural communication for the last twenty years.
