One of the most significant disadvantages of electric multirotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is their short flight time compared to fuel-powered UAVs. This is mainly due to the low energy density of electric batteries. Fuel has much more energy density when compared to batteries. Electric-powered motors in multirotor UAVs cannot be replaced with fuel-based engines because the stability and control of multirotor UAVs rely on the high response rates of electric motors. One of the possible solutions to overcome this problem of short endurance times is by using hybrid thrusting systems that combine the advantages of both fuel and electrical propulsion systems, where high maneuverability and long endurance flight time could be achieved. The main goal of this thesis is to study existing hybrid thrusting and power systems in multirotor UAVs consisting of combustion engines, electric motors, and their power sources. Then work on the improvement and optimization of these profiles in multirotor UAVs to increase their flight endurance times.In this thesis, a hybrid thrusting system-based quadrotor UAV model is developed. In addition, altitude and attitude control systems for the hybrid thrusting system-based UAV are presented. The presented hybrid quadcopter model comprises four electric motors and one fuel engine. The developed hybrid UAV has achieved a 139% improvement in flight time.The thesis also reports on various related issues about the improvement in flight times and optimal fuel mass to battery size ratio to maximize flight time and other parameters that affect the endurance time of the UAV.

520 $a إن قصر مدة الطيران في الرحلة الواحدة لهو من أشد عيوب الطائرات المسيرة متعددة المحركات، ويظهر ذلك جلياً إذا ما قورنت بتلك المزودة بالوقود. إن مصدر الطاقة في الطائرات متعددة المحركات يتكون من البطاريات والتي يعيبها انخفاض سعة تخزينها للطاقة بالنسبة للكتلة والذي يعبر عنه بكثافة الطاقة، هذا العيب هو ما يؤثر بشكل مباشر على مدة الطيران. في المقابل فإن الوقود ذو كثافة عالية من الطاقة أكثر بكثير من البطاريات. من غير الممكن ان نستبدل المحركات الكهربائية في الطائرات متعددة المحركات بمحركات احتراق داخلي لعدم قدرتها على التغيير السريع جدا لسرعاتها واتجاه دورانها كما هو الحال في المحركات الكهربائية. الجمع بين المحركات الكهربائية وذات الاحتراق الداخلي هو أحد الحلول المطروحة للمحافظة على القدرة العالية للمناورة مع زيادة مدة الطيران.هدف الرسالة الرئيس هو دراسة الأنظمة الهجينة الموجودة للطائرات متعددة المحركات وما تحتويه من أنظمة الدفع وتزويد الطاقة، ثم العمل على تحسين وتطوير هذه الطائرات لزيادة مدة الطيران.في هذه الرسالة تم تطوير طائرة رباعية المحركات بنظام دفع هجين عبر إضافة محرك احتراق داخلي مزدوج الشفرات وتم تطوير المتحكمات لكل من الارتفاع والحركة. تم الحصول على 139% زيادة على مدة الطيران مقارنة مع طائرات رباعية مماثلة كهربائية بالكامل.تناولت الرسالة عدة تحسينات ونتائج مثل زيادة مدة الطيران والكمية المثلى للوقود حسب حجم البطارية للحصول على أطول. بالإضافة إلى عدة عوامل أخرى لها تأثير على مدة الطيران.
