思辨與實踐有何關係？思辨如何引向實踐？「尊德性而道問學」如何可能這原是一普遍的哲學問題，在？不同歷史時空下可以有各種發問方式和回答思路。本文的主題在檢視當代中國哲學中的「工夫論」，觀其如何建構成為一門富思辨性的哲學論述，又如何發揮其實踐功能。中國傳統思想有「工夫」（或作「功夫」）的概念，也有相當多關於工夫的論述，而本文所聚焦的「工夫論」乃現代學術之產物，特強調思辨的、理論性的一面，也肩負著實踐的任務。自這個概念在二十世紀下半葉出現之後，迅速成為了中國哲學裡的流行課題。「工夫論」具有豐富內容的同時，對比起心性論、天道論這些部門，其意涵也是相對模糊，不容易釐清。何謂工夫論？工夫論討論些什麼哲學問題？研究的範圍、對象如何規定？用什麼方法研究？這些都是些值得仔細反省的問題。本文會先從比較普遍的思辨與實踐問題說起，繼而集中到中國傳統的工夫論述，觀其概念源流，並從事件的角度把握古代工夫論述的特徵，以更好地把握現代中國哲學的工夫論誕生的背景；主體部分由一系列的個案考察組成，分別考察胡適、馮友蘭、熊十力、牟宗三、唐君毅、勞思光幾位先生如何哲學地講論工夫議題，包括泛言的人生哲學、知識論、引申意義的方法論、道德哲學的方法學、本體論等各種處理；最後探討晚近參照詮釋學的觀點講習工夫論的方向，以見一種與詮釋學互相融合的工夫論在未來發展的可能性。.

520 $a What should be the relationship between philosophical inquiry and virtuous cultivation? How does philosophical thinking lead to practice? These questions are repeatedly asked by the great thinkers all over the world, and there can be various ways of formulation and answer. This paper aims to examine the “Discourse on Virtuous Effort”(Gongfu Lun) in contemporary Chinese philosophy. There are mainly two concerns as follows, how is it constructed as a philosophical discourse? And how does it fulfill its practical function? The traditional discourses on virtuous effort are always generated from self-cultivation, while the Discourse on Virtuous Effort in the contemporary Chinese philosophy is largely shaped by the modern academic practice, and thus becomes more theoretical. The Chinese philosophers had been striving for the best to prevent the philosophical thinking from alienation. Though the Discourse on Virtuous Effort is rich in content, its meaning is relatively vague and not easy to clarify. What philosophical issues does it concerns? How to define the object and scope of research? What methods should be employed in it? These are questions worth y of careful reflection. In the case studies of Hushi, Feng Youlan, Xiong Shili, Mou Zongsan, Tang Junyi and Lao Siguang, I will show that the Discourses on Virtuous Effort have been formulated as philosophy of life, epistemology, a derivative sense of methodology, methodology of moral philosophy and ontology. Finally, this paper ends by an discussion of the possibility of integrating hermeneutics into the Discourse on Virtuous Effort.
