The problem addressed in this study was that online training designers experience barriers when implementing evaluations to assess knowledge transfer after 3-6 months. This qualitative exploratory case study aimed to explore online training designers' experiences and perceptions regarding the barriers faced when working with project stakeholders to implement long-term evaluation methods. Eleven participants responded to the email invitation for a one-on-one semi-structured interview, and eight opted to attend the optional focus group. Utilizing Baldwin and Ford's (1988) theory of training transfer as the conceptual framework, the findings of this study indicated that online training designers face barriers when implementing long-term evaluations due to a lack of understanding on the stakeholder's end regarding the tasks that are needing to be assessed and how those tasks could be demonstrated based on the capacity of the learner. Establishing a positive learning culture within an organization that includes transparency with crucial performance goals, continuous improvement, and the value of evaluation and assessment can lead to improved learning experiences. Practice recommendations include (1) emphasizing the expertise of training and development team members through professional learning opportunities (workshops, conferences, etc.) and use of industry-leading practices and methodologies; (2) establishing a community of learning that includes the promotion of best practices in adult education, open and honest feedback, and continuous improvement; (3) utilizing quantifiable data trends from training evaluations to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and enhancement.
