Organizational leaders often fail to develop a leadership style that effectively addresses the complexities of managing and retaining a multigenerational workforce with varying needs and a diversity of perspectives. This study addresses the gap in literature regarding authentic leadership and the retention of a multigenerational workforce. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between authentic leadership attributes and employee retention and to determine if psychological empowerment partially mediates that relationship. Authentic leadership emerged from positive organizational behavior research which examined how positive members behaviors can be developed, measured and managed in an organizational setting. Participants (N = 186) completed an online survey and data was analyzed using SPSS version 29 software. Research questions were addressed using ordinal regression which determined a significant direct relationship exists between authentic leadership and the turnover intentions of a multigenerational workforce as well as a partial mediating effect of psychological empowerment. The findings of this study could contribute to leadership development of training programs focused on maintaining talented members of those generational groups. This could reduce the cost of products and services potentially granting businesses the opportunity to invest in their communities.
