In recent years, colleges and universities have recognized the role of dormitories in shaping students' overall college experience. Despite this, research focusing on interior design elements and their impact on students has been lacking. This study addresses this research gap by investigating students' perceptions of selected interior design elements and assessing their importance and performance. This research uncovered two overlooked variables-control and privacy-that influence students' perceptions of dormitories. This finding suggests that designers reassess their approach to dormitory planning to include environmental psychology related needs for privacy and community, and spaces where students can be alone, together.
