Learning disabled students are found to experience higher levels of anxiety (in particular test anxiety) than students without learning disabilities. Cognitive behavioral interventions, biofeedback, and academic skill-building interventions are effective for treating test anxiety in school-aged youth. The combination of a student having a learning disability and experiencing test anxiety leads to lower academic performance and decreased self-esteem. This dissertation presents a program to reduce test anxiety for learning disabled school-aged youth not only to increase a student's grades but to also increase self-esteem. In turn, more students in this population will have a chance at being successful in college and utilize their full potential. The four techniques used in this program (i.e. progressive muscle relaxation, systematic desensitization, biofeedback, and study skills training) were chosen based on their strong effectiveness from the research and requires minimal instruction by the program administrator.
