The most significant factors of an organizational structure include communication, formalization, centralization, and control of projects. Impeding any factors has the potential to cause project failure. The lack of information dissemination was a barrier causing problems within functional organizations and specifically, within aircraft technical publication manufacturing between the project manager, the core and geographically dispersed functional teams negatively affecting project success. The purpose of this qualitative, single case study; the focus on expanding the theory of linear, smaller organizations using the Boeing Global Services, Logistics Engineering Capability, an established functional organization. Identifying and focusing on barriers to information dissemination within teams that may negatively affect project success. Specifically, evaluate if communication barriers existed within a large functional organization inhibiting communication between project managers and team members that had affected project performance outcomes (factors) also known as the triple constraint for a functional organization. Eleven project stakeholders from the core and geographically dispersed teams participated in this single case qualitative research study. These participants worked on the same projects within the single organization. To complete this single case research design was used with individual telephone or face-to-face interviews with eleven participants to collect, analyze, code, and report. Results and recommendations of this research study suggest an evaluation of project outcomes during a mixed method design for triple constraint and project success within earned value management metrics within a functional organization using geographically dispersed teams.
