The robotics community has decades' worth of research in bipedal robotic walking. The complex process of human walking and balance is not fully understood and very difficult to mimic. Bipedal robot walking has been proven in a controlled setting, but robots have a difficult time coping with disturbances to their balance. In this study, preliminary human data was collected from one subject while walking up to and then through a door. Pressure sensors were placed inside the subject's shoe (left and right foot) during the runs, and the sensors calculated the center of foot pressure position and total force. The preliminary data was analyzed using Graphpad Prism, Excel, and Matlab software. Each individual step (peak) for the left and right foot was analyzed. Data analysis of the center of pressure data included AUC (area under the curve), frequency distribution, non-linear regression modeling, correlation, and ANOVA testing. The analysis showed reproducibility and correlation between the center of pressure data. The analysis also created models of the individual steps (peaks) and step (peak) areas. An equipment malfunction was seen that may have affected the data. During swing phase, the pressure sensors from the right foot were showing pressure readings other than the baseline zero value. The preliminary analysis was a positive first step in the goal of modeling human bipedal walking through doorways. Future activities include obtaining more data with a larger number of subjects, using a more structured study, utilizing an informational screening questionnaire, and creating a more complex animation control of bipedal walking using the center of pressure data and Simulink.
