This qualitative phenomenological study explored the influence of mentoring on the acquisition of transformational leadership skills by effective Title I elementary principals. Five research questions guided the inquiry of the study to determine whether or not mentoring had an influence on the acquisition of transformational leadership skills. The study consisted of guided protocol interviews with nine principal participants from successful Title 1 elementary schools across the United States. The findings suggested that mentoring of Title 1 elementary principals influenced their development of the transformational leadership skills of: Idealized influence, inspirational motivation, individualized concern, and intellectual stimulation. This results of this study has implications for designers of professional development for principals, key decision-makers in the field of educational administration, and key educational policy-makers.
