The goal of this project was to propose a mindfulness-based intervention for elementary school students who are exhibiting disruptive behaviors. The proposed school-based group combines the basic principles of mindfulness-based interventions with Carl Rogers's person-centered therapy and Erik Erikson's psychosocial stages of development. The basic tenets, benefits, and universality of mindfulness-based interventions are examined through past literature. Attention is also paid to the implications of mindfulness-based interventions with children. A review of the literature also discusses person-centered therapy, Erikson's psychosocial stages of development, and the efficacy of school-based groups. This small group is designed to improve mindfulness and reduce disruptive and maladaptive classroom behaviors in elementary school students. With the comprehensive understanding and regular practice of mindfulness, children will be better equipped to exhibit greater self-control in the classroom.
