Redesigning the Nursing and Human Resource Partnership
A Model for the New Normal Era /[electronic resource] :by Yupin Aungsuroch, Joko Gunawan, Mary L. Fisher. - 1st ed. 2022. - XV, 110 p. 2 illus., 1 illus. in color.online resource.
1 Introduction: The Evolution of Human Resource Management -- 2 Competence-Based Human Resource Management -- 3 Recruitment and Selection -- 4 Training and Development -- 5 Rewards and Benefits -- 6 Performance Appraisal -- 7 Career Planning and Development -- 8 Succession Planning.
This book focuses on the partnership between nursing and human resource management in hospital administration. In doing so, it addresses the barriers and challenges in the process of competence-based recruitment and selection, training and development, rewards and benefits, performance appraisal, career planning and development, and succession planning of nurses in the hospitals, specifically to face the new normal era. There is no doubt that the demand for nurses has been great during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses have become the heroes in the battle of the virus, and their hard work should be appreciated. Yet, burnout, stress, and depression among nurses have become the main issues during the pandemic. Some nurses leave their jobs and profession due to an excessive and stressful workload. This crisis puts a new focus on human resource management in hospital administration to retain their nurses, and also improve the quality of care. In addition to addressing the points above, the book also offers recommendations to resolve the barriers and challenges of competence-based human resource management by emphasizing the partnership between nursing and human recourses to influence nurse practice and human resource policy positively. Yupin Aungsuroch, Ph.D., RN, is an associate professor and Director of the Ph.D. program at Faculty of Nursing Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She was a former Dean at the same faculty. Her areas of expertise are related to leadership and management, nursing system, nursing workforce, and the positive practice environment. Joko Gunawan, Ph.D., RN, is currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Nursing, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. His areas of expertise are nursing administration and informatics. Mary L. Fisher, Ph.D., RN, is a Professor Emeritus, Indiana University School of Nursing, USA, and a Clinical Professor at the College of Nursing, University of Florida, USA. Her areas of expertise are evidence-based practice, nursing administration, high performance work system, strategic human resource management, professional development, organizational change, teacher education, and educational assessment.
