This study investigated two dependent variables--attitudes concerning science and formal reasoning ability of students, and the relationship between these two variables under the effects of some independent variables--formal level, type of senior high school, grade, and sex. The sample was drawn from three types of senior high schools--commercial, industrial, and general, by use of the stratified sampling method. The total sample was 540 students ranging from tenth to twelfth grades. The Scientific Attitude Inventory and Logical Reasoning Test were administered to all students to assess their attitudes concerning science and formal reasoning ability. Four statistical tools were used to test the hypotheses with a significance at the 0.05 level. These are multivariate analysis of variance, analysis of variance, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and Duncan's multiple range test.
