Statement of ProblemThis project addressed the gap in preparing teachers to effectively integrate social emotional competencies into daily practice within school communities in a systematic manner. Although social emotional competencies have been adopted as an essential component of high-quality education by the state of California, our educational leaders and teachers need guidance on how to integrate these equity-focused skills into daily practice in culturally responsive ways.Sources of DataA review of the literature on effective professional development, professional learning communities, and social emotional learning instruction along with examples of handbooks for educational leaders contributed to the development of this handbook. Conclusions ReachedBy integrating research-based practices, a handbook was created that supports district and educational leadership in the implementation of a systematic approach towards building a shared understanding, language and skills needed to effectively integrate social emotional competencies into daily practice. Specifically, the handbook is divided into modules that are to be facilitated within established professional learning communities.
