Acquiring a new language for ESL students has been a challenge as developing reading and writing skills, and communicating accurately in a second language is hard. For this situation, implementing proper strategies for ESL students has been key to the development of reading and writing in the learning process. Understanding metacognition strategies and the Self-Regulated Strategy Development Model is not simply for the learners, but for the teachers who support them, as well. This paper summarizes research on strategies, posits the implications of reading and writing on pedagogy, and presents a workshop that uses a model of daily activities and lesson plans to incorporate in the classroom. This workshop on reading and writing strategies will transform teachers' lessons into daily activities for ESL students.
