The purpose of this one-time cross-sectional study was to examine the number of cases of classifications of students (students who bully others, students who are bullied, and bystanders) and examine students' perception of school climate before and after the implementation of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) in order to identify areas or strengths and weaknesses to help create successful citizens of the 21st century. Students in 3rd-6th grade from 15 schools completed the Olweus Bullying Questionnaire. The pretest was collected January 23, 2012 with 2,853 students and the posttest on September 30, 2013 with 2,756 students. Each research question was examined to note statistically significant (p<.05) differences number of cases of classification of student (RQ1) and students' perception of school climate (RQ2) before and after the implementation of the OBPP. The theoretical framework centered on Bronfenbrenner's ecological system theory which aided in understanding that students, family, school, and community all play a role in school climate. Research question one examined the number of cases of classifications of students after one year of implementation of the OBPP. A chi-square test showed that there was a positive statistically significant association between classification and questionnaire year, X2 (2) = 41.000, p = .000; therefore, we reject the null hypothesis. This shows that the OBPP played an important role in decreasing the number of students who bully others and students who are bullied, while increasing the number of bystanders. The variables gender and Title I status was overall statistically significant, which means that the program worked positively for both girls and boys and Title I (at least 40% of students enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program) and non-Title I schools. There were significant changes from pretest to posttest for several variables, including grade level, ethnicity, and school size. ANCOVA was used for research question two to examine how the implementation of the OBPP affected students' perception of school climate (comfort with school life, others' reaction, and own reaction). Comfort with school life was statistically significant by questionnaire year, F (1, 4938) = 4.460, p = .035; thus we can reject the null hypothesis. The implementation of OBPP helped to increase the mean score by .05 with shows an increase in students liking school, increase in number of friends, and less concern of being bullied. Gender was statistically significant for comfort with school life with a positive increase for both girls with .10 and boys with .11 for mean scores. Others' reaction, F (1, 4938) = 2.722, p = .099 and own reaction, F (1, 4938) = 2.972, p = .085 were not statistically significant by questionnaire year; thus we failed to reject the null hypothesis. This study contributed to the existing research of the OBPP by providing specific data on the change of classification of students. It also provided insight as to how the OBPP can affect the overall school climate and provided advice for areas of focus when implementing the program. Some limitations included design, history effects, timing of the questionnaire, inconsistency in fidelity, and changes in the school/classroom.
