Generative AI art has been rising in prominence the past few years, and it presents a radically different approach for creatives in their artistic process, especially professional illustrators and animators. Some productions have been affected by this technology already, and there are no regulations controlling how these images can be produced or used. This is especially an issue as artists' work has been collected off the Internet and used as training data without their consent and without compensation by both AI dataset companies and individual technologists who create the means to mimic an illustrator's work. I discuss the research and the methodologies behind my installation Parallel: Liminal, Link, Leap! that explores this issue of AI art while simultaneously utilizing AI within the work. This is done in a more ethical way by training the AI on my own artwork, and seeing its potential in creating images similar to my own. Parallel is an installation that seeks to understand how realistic it is for illustrators and animators to take advantage of this technology and apply it to their creative processes to create something new. This work is inspired by how other artists have explored the topic of AI previously, as well as artist perspectives on the situation.
