The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the network of relationships among self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and self-worth of adolescent singers, as well as how each of these constructs function in high school choral singing contexts. A secondary purpose was to examine whether self-efficacy for singing varies as a function of self-identified gender. Participants consisted of 215 (N = 215) high school students enrolled in choir from five public high schools located in the Midwest, upper Midwest, and Southwestern regions of the United States. Participants completed an online questionnaire pertaining to their background information as well as adaptations of measures of four psychological constructs. Descriptive analyses revealed a relatively high level of singing self-efficacy, a very high level of intrinsic motivation, and moderate level of self-worth among participants. Structural Equation Modeling was used to examine the relationships among participants' reports of the influences of sources of self-efficacy, self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and self-worth. Regression coefficients of the direct effect model indicated that physiological state was the only statistically significant predictor of self-efficacy among the four sources of self-efficacy. A significant and positive relationship was found between self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation. Furthermore, the direct effect model revealed a non-significant effect of self-worth on intrinsic motivation. Bivariate correlation analyses revealed a significant and positive relationship between self-efficacy and self-worth. The results of Satorra-Bentler scaled Chi-square difference test indicated that the moderation model was a significantly better fit to the data than the direct effect model. In addition, the path coefficients of the moderation model revealed a significant and negative interaction effect in the model. Other salient findings of the study include a non-significant difference in participants' self-efficacy scores based on self-identified gender, as well as a significant and positive relationship between participants' plans to continue to take part in singing activities and intrinsic motivation as well as mastery experience. Participants' self-worth was found to be negatively related to their plans for singing participation after high school graduation.
