Thesis (M.A.)--University of Georgia, 2023.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis uses the perception of the emotion conveyed by emojis in order to compare ways to divide internet Communities of Practice (CofPs). The data for this analysis was obtained through an anonymous online survey administered through Qualtrics. Emojis were selected to be a part of 3 different groups. Through the analysis of a few of these emojis, the findings were in favor of splitting internet communities into two groups based on groups of internet users discussed by Gretchen McCulloch in her 2019 book Because Internet: Understanding the New Rules of Language.
