本文研究對象是漢語和越南語陳述句句末和句首助詞。基於生成語法理論，本文嘗試提出句子邊緣構造方案，以解釋句子左邊緣和右邊緣相關語言現象。漢語和越南語語氣助詞可以分成三大類。第一類，說者取向助詞，表示說者對命題的承諾。第二類，聽者取向助詞，提請聽者接受或相信句子內容。第三類，話語標記助詞，增加句子和話語的相關性。除了助詞以外，稱呼語也可以出現在句子左右邊緣，表示說者對聽者的態度。基於句子邊緣相關研究、以及施行短語假設（Performative Projection）、和交互骨架假設（Interactional Spine Hypothesis）等理論，本文嘗試提出漢越句子的邊緣結構。對話中的句子被嵌套於一個施行短語結構中（saP）。saP有 VP-Shell的結構，而語氣助詞佔據 SAP 中心語位置。語氣助詞可以進入不同的推導模式。說者取向助詞進入 BE式推導模式，而聽者取向助詞進入 CAUSE式推導模式。 SA 中心語可能表示存在（LOC），也可能表示一種擁有關係（HAVE）。如果說者只是想告訴聽者一條新信息，語氣助詞進入「CAUSE......LOC」的推導模式，讓句子內容被傳送到聽者。如果說者想要說服聽者，讓聽者擁有新信念，語氣助詞進入「CAUSE......HAVE」的推導模式，結果是讓聽者擁有對命題的信念。話語中的根句的最高功能詞短語是 DiscourseP，具有話語標記功能的助詞可以佔據其中心語位置。稱呼語 VocP 是 HEARER 的顯性拼讀形式。表層語序是 UTTERANCE CONTENT、SPEAKER 和 HEARER 移位的結果。

520 $a This dissertation focuses on declarative sentence-final and sentence-initial particles in Chinese and Vietnamese. Based on the framework of generative grammar, I attempt to propose a minimalist architecture that could account for linguistic phenomena occurring on the sentential periphery of both languages.Chinese and Vietnamese pragmatic particles can be divided into three categories. The first type, namely speaker-oriented particles, expresses the speaker's commitment to the proposition. On the other hand, hearer-oriented particles invite the hearer to accept or believe the propositional content. The third category, also called discourse markers in the literature, highlights the relevance of utterances. In addition to pragmatic particles, vocative phrases can also appear on the left and right edges of the sentence to indicate the speaker's attitude towards the hearer.Inspired by the research on the architecture of the sentential edge, the Performative Projection, and the Interactional Spine Hypothesis, I propose that conversational sentences are embedded in a Speech-act phrase (saP). saP has the structure of VP-Shell, and pragmatic particles occupy the head position of SAP. Particles with different functions can be derived from various derivations. The speaker-oriented particles enter the BE-type derivation mode, while the hearer-oriented particles enter the CAUSE-type derivation mode. The head of SA may denote existential meaning (LOC) or encode a relationship of possessing (HAVE). If the speaker intends to tell the hearer new information, the pragmatic particle enters a derivation similar to the dative construction (with two light verbs, namely CAUSE and LOC) so that the content of the utterance content is transmitted to the hearer. If the speaker wants to persuade the hearer and make the hearer have a new belief, the pragmatic particle enters a derivation resembling the double object construction, which can be argued to involve the light verb CAUSE and the proposition HAVE. The speaker expresses explicitly that the hearer should immediately add the proposition to his or her public beliefs. The highest functional projection of a root sentence is DiscourseP, and its head can be occupied by particles that function as discourse markers. Vocative phrases are the overt spell-out of HEARER. The surface word order of sentence-final or sentence-initial particles results from the movement of UTTERANCE CONTENT, SPEAKER, and HEARER in the speech-act structure.
