The United States' Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) businesses must be innovative to remain competitive in today's global forum (Authenrieth et al., 2018; Autenrieth et al., 2018; Genareo et al., 2016; Watters & Diezmann, 2013). New business employees must enter the workplace knowing the practical application of a 21st Century skillset (Bowen, 2013; Tapprich et al., 2016). The future STEM workforce must gain a working understanding from either secondary or higher education. Many public-secondary school districts possess a wide range of STEM content knowledge (Tapprich et al., 2016) and real-world application of a 21st Century skillset.This comparative case study examined how one New England deliberately built partnership between a local STEM business and local public-secondary school was created to increase students' STEM content knowledge and working understanding of a 21st Century skillset. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDCP) Strategic Partnering Conceptual Framework's (CDCP, n.d.) 20 success factors framed this study. The source of data collection was in-depth interviews with six participants: Three STEM business and three local public-secondary school participants.The study's findings were used to develop three themes: Personal Motivation to Participate in Partnership; Local, National, and Global Dimensions have Altered the Deliberate Partnership; and Evolution in the Partnership. A model for building deliberate partnerships was created with six critical components: Shared Purpose, Member Beliefs, Local Community STEM Focus, Developed to Fit Need, Biggest Contribution was Time, and No Formal Structure.Recommendations were determined for practice, policy, and future research for school partners, business partners, and all partners. The comparative case study identified the relationship of axes of the deliberately built partnership: how people, sites, institutions, or social movements impacted the partnership (horizontal axis); how the government responded to global recommendations (vertical axis); and the historical processes (transversal axis).
