Labor force, employment, academia, family, and finances. These topics, and more are issues that are frequently outlined when discussing the economic realities of many African American men, but are rarely discussed from the perspective of, or through the voice of, African American men themselves. The intent of this research is to study the behaviors, decisions, and motivations of African American male business owners, who employ others via their business, from their own perspective, and to examine potential strategies, obstacles, and repeatable processes from their entrepreneurial experiences that can be used to increase self-employment among African American men. The ultimate purpose of this study is to research how entrepreneurship can be utilized as an instrument to reduce unemployment, and increase labor force participation, among African American men, and how that can positively impact their community, their personal socioeconomic status, their familial wealth accumulation, and ultimately intergenerational wealth transfer.
