The researcher highlighted the impact of a specific event on students' understanding, outlooks, and sustainable actions and to explore an educational setting in Hamburg, Germany, and its challenges in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) deployment. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are featured in the analysis to frame the study in a widely accepted set of objectives. A mixed-methods approach was used, including interviews with educators and a quantitative survey with closed-ended questions to help the researcher understand a sustainability event within a school context. Existing literature underscores the potential impact of ESD events in areas such as education, community bonding, and identity formation. Furthermore, applying game-based learning (GBL) in ESD was shown to be an influential tool to instill sustainable attitudes, transcending various barriers. The observed gap in using event settings and GBL in ESD is disconcerting. Emphasizing the global citizenship mindset and the intricate design of a GBL event targeting ESD offered a structured blueprint to merge GBL events with ESD effectively. The present study results may be important in aligning educational institutions with the SDGs.
