Thesis (M.F.A.)--Iowa State University, 2024.
Includes bibliographical references
This thesis delves into the collaborative dynamics between UX designers and developers, identifying challenges and exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) could enhance their partnership. With interactive digital product usage on the rise, effective teamwork between these roles is essential for sound user experience. Initial interviews with professionals highlight common issues such as communication barriers, misaligned objectives, and difficulties in conveying interactive design elements. An AI-enhanced prototype was proposed to address these challenges.User reviews of the prototype indicated its effectiveness in enhancing communication, providing necessary context, and managing documentation. Despite its potential, concerns were raised about AI's autonomy and its implications for professional roles. The study suggests further integration of the AI tool into existing workflows and enhancements to address real-world application needs. Limitations of the study include diversity of the participant pool, and the lack of direct interaction with the prototype during user reviews. Future research could involve a broader participant base and hands-on testing with a functional prototype. This research offers insights into improving designer-developer collaboration, and ultimately offer benefits across the product development industry.
