This thesis investigates what the stakeholders of a university First-Year Writing (FYW) program in the United States (US) think about the potential advantages and disadvantages of the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools in composition and language learning in college-level practices. To sound out the key players of the college-level writing process, and to get their opinions, an online survey with a request for a follow-up interview was distributed to the members of the FYW program of a large public university in the US, consisting of students taking English composition courses, instructors of these courses, writing center tutors, and staff working in this program (N = 120). Through a mixed-method approach, the quantitative data from survey results were analyzed via Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Then, thematic analyses of the follow-up interview responses (N = 4) were added to the data analysis after they were transcribed via Otter.ai, an AI-powered transcription tool. The findings showed that the majority of the stakeholders have a positive or neutral attitude toward the use of AI tools rather than a negative stance. Also, it can be inferred from the data there is a slight difference between the domestic and international stakeholders in terms of their overall familiarity with AI tools. Also, the diverse perspectives of stakeholders offer insights on the future implications and the potential integration of AI tools into FYW and L2 writing instruction practices.
