Project risk management has become an essential process in companies to ensure that they are leaders in their industry. Every year, organizational leaders and project managers plan which improvements and projects they want to focus on for the year to maintain or become leaders in the industry. Within the project planning stage, project managers determine the risks for the project and ensure that they are mitigated so there are no delays during the project. Project managers had to ensure they understood risk management processes and developed strategies to integrate them within the project plan. This generic qualitative inquiry explored the strategies project managers take when integrating risk management processes and techniques into the lifecycle of a project. The conceptual framework for this study was critical success factor theory (CSF) principles. The research question that guided this study was as follows: What strategies do some project managers in the United States use to integrate risk management processes and techniques into a project's lifecycle? The instrument for gathering data from the 12 participants volunteering to participate was semi-structured interviews. Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis was used to analyze transcripts and then analyzed for themes and categories with the software ATLAS.ti. After the review and analysis, data presented three themes. The identified themes are (a) applying risk management to mitigate risk, (b) understanding project management tools in project planning and scheduling, and (c) identifying risk management processes to monitor and control project plans. This study's results may provide project managers with other methods for utilizing risk management processes in a project's lifecycle. In addition to integrating risk management processes, participants expanded on the challenges they faced using these processes and presented project changes to senior leadership. The outcomes of this study may provide a positive change for integrating risk management processes into project plans within various industries.
