Animation is fast becoming a common element of interface design. But understanding how animations serve to improve the functions of graphical user interfaces, and not distract from them is not always clear. The paper will illuminate how to use animation to improve communication and user experience in interface design. By analyzing many examples and by carefully studying the Interaction Design literature, the author will explain an evolving theory of using animation in user interface and its appropriate use, purposes and techniques.
