The topic of small organizations and maximization of performance through technology management: a case study. The problem is a lack of ability for small businesses to obtain, upgrade, and integrate software at a reasonable cost. The purpose was to gain insight and understanding on the perceptions and effects that technology has on small businesses that fail to utilize software management systems within their businesses. The study used a multiple case study format. This study used a sample of 5 small businesses that either used or didn't use management software within their respective businesses. The method of sampling was a stratified sample that included interview questions related to software tools. In the survey that was also completed, the results showed that many of the answers on the survey were very similar to one another. This in turn showed a direct correlation to the outcome of the research that was being conducted. Subjects within the study were given a short interview, as asked to complete a ten-question survey at the end of the interview. This study only suggests due to the limited amount subjects that participated and the geographic area associated with the study that financial constraints for small organizations are prevalent and are a major deterrent to accessing the ability to acquire software programs that are conducive to growth. This study was important as it was used to create awareness for further research on small businesses and their continued ability to maintain a completive advantage within the marketplace. This study also developed the idea that future research on why small organizations continue to maintain instability within their ability to maintain, and upgrade software tools that could be used to increase their ability to also compete. It also proved to show ideas that could increase small businesses ability to see a bigger ROI based on their ability to afford the software programs that they need. The results showed that something else needs to be done in order to make a more inclusive and financially friendly environment that allows small businesses to compete, thrive and be more competitive on the larger market.
