The role of adjuncts has changed drastically over the past 70 years, making these part-time professors the teaching core of collegiate both the wealthy and the less competitive collegiate faculty. Research showed that nearly 70 percent of faculties working in the academic environment works in part-time faculty positions and account for the majority of the academic workforce. The problem is that the Affordable Care Act has impacted the working condition and livelihood of adjuncts in higher education due to the health care reformation. The purpose of this case study was to investigate adjunct's perceptions of the ACA, awareness, and administrators approach of the health changes. The research questions addressed the impact the ACA had on adjuncts and provided substantiation and connections to the research questions in the study. The study was based on a qualitative multiple-case approach which allowed data to be gathered by interviewing several potential participants approximately between eight all from Tallahassee Community College. LinkedIn served as the focus point of contacting adjunct participants in Florida. Upon contact and confirming participation, the participants received a follow-up email with the study description and a written informed consent form. Once the form was signed and received by the researcher, an initial interview was scheduled for a meeting date. The units of analysis consisted of faculties in Tallahassee Florida working in a part-time position. Further research is recommended with the consideration of the long-term effect of the ACA impact on adjuncts. Key Terms: Affordable Care Act, adjuncts faculty, cost, employer-mandate, and penalty.
