Understanding how individuals perceive and understand innovation enables organizational leaders to understand consumers when marketing innovative products and services. Gaining this knowledge may improve the adoption and diffusion of innovative products and services. The theoretical framework forming the basis of this research was Rogers's diffusion of innovation theory and the ways this theory relates to how an idea, practice, process, or object is perceived from the personal or individual perspective. This quantitative correlational study built upon prior perceptions of innovation research by expanding the model used by Caraballo and McLaughlin and by further explaining the links between age, gender, and job function within the appraisal industry and culture. This study included three research questions: What is the relationship between real estate appraisers' perception of innovation and age? What is the relationship between real estate appraisers' perception of innovation and gender? What is the relationship between real estate appraisers' perception of innovation and job function? This research contributes to the knowledge base established by Caraballo and McLaughlin, as they aimed to expand the understanding of the perceptions of innovation within different industries and cultures around the world. This study expands previous innovation research by targeting real estate appraisers as the population and the 800 members of the National Association of Appraisers as the sample by employing Caraballo and McLaughlin's updated survey instrument. The study indicated there are no significant differences in how National Association of Appraisers members view innovation based on the variables of age, gender, and job function (licensure level).
