Although the primary symptom of AD is memory loss, AD also targets linguistic abilities. Previous studies have not reported significant differences in the narratives of individuals with varying progressions of Alzheimer's disease (AD) regarding linguistic features such as the number of unique words and the number of subordinate sentences. This study describes and quantifies the use of specific lexical and syntactic features that appear in narratives and conversations of Alzheimer's disease patients (AD), using audio and video forms with transcriptions collected by Carolinas Conversations Collection. A total of 30 individuals participated in this study: 15 with AD and 15 without AD, comprising 8 males and 22 females. A statistical analysis was undertaken to compare the linguistic features between individuals with AD and without AD, and between females and males. The results show that the AD participants displayed lower mean scores than the controls with respect to the MLU, coordinate sentences, subordinate sentences, and unique words than the healthy aging adults. On the other hand, no statistically significant difference was found between females and males with respect to all aspects of language analysis including MLU, coordinate sentences, subordinate sentences, and different words.
