Family functioning has an impact on the students' ability to succeed academically. Although widely recognized by researchers as important, improving the functioning family system as a way to improve academic success is a route that is rarely taken in the educational system. This research project was designed to evaluate the Hamburg Family Support Center, a school-based family therapy program utilizing Solution-Focused Brief therapy. This program was evaluated by administering the Behavioral Assessment System for Children to teachers, mothers and students before and after participation in the family therapy program. Solution-Focused school-based family therapy was effective in reducing anxiety and conduct problems as reported by the student's mothers. Furthermore, Solution-Focused school-based family therapy was effective in reducing aggression and conduct problems as reported by the student's teacher. Solution-Focused school-based family therapy was not effective as reported by students. Recommendations for future research include measuring variables that coincide with the students presenting problem and conducting qualitative in-depth interviews with the family after treatment to determine which areas of their lives improved.
