This ex post facto causal-comparative study compares literacy and math achievement for Kindergarten students who attended one of the three Early Childhood Schools in a large suburban North Texas school district versus eligible students who did not attend one of the District's Pre-K schools. Students enrolled in Kindergarten during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years were measured using Children's Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA) scores. Math and literacy scores for students who attended Pre-K for greater than or equal to 135 school days (or 75% of the possible time) were compared to Kindergarten students who did not attend Pre-K, but would have qualified to do so. Independent-samples t-tests were used to analyze the data for significant differences. Additionally, students were divided into male and female subgroups and compared utilizing ANOVA. The results indicated that there are significant differences on the beginning of the year Kindergarten tests in literacy and math scores of children who attended one of the three public early childhood schools. Females tended to outperform males, but not significantly so.
