The purpose of this qualitative inquiry was to examine the experiences of Women faculty of color in San Francisco Bay Area community colleges. The goal was to add to the body of research on women faculty of color in U. S. higher education by uncovering their challenges and successes in urban community colleges, which are usually located in racially diverse areas of the United States. Three research questions guided the inquiry: What professional experiences do WFOC have at San Francisco Bay Area community colleges? How does gender and race intersect to influence the professional experiences of WFOC at San Francisco Bay Area community colleges? What influence, if any, does working at San Francisco Bay Area community colleges have on the self-perception of WFOC?

Informed by Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Critical Race Feminism (CRF), this dissertation research used counter-narratives as the primary method of data collection and analysis. Specifically, two in-depth interviews with a purposive sample of six participants were conducted to uncover and flesh out the counter-narratives of Women faculty of color (WFOC) at San Francisco Bay Area community colleges. Then, a thematic analysis was applied to the interview data.
