This study explored whether social stories can help improve the social skills of preschool students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Specifically, this study examined whether social stories increased positive social interactions among preschool students with ASD. Social stories have been used to help with problematic or disruptive behaviors, inappropriate social behaviors, social communication and appropriate social and play behaviors, general social skills, and on-task behavior (Gray and Garand, 1993). During the study, individualized social stories were created for each participant. Using a single-subject experimental approach, the following research questions were addressed: (a) Do social stories increase positive social interactions among preschool students with ASD? (b) Will students be able to maintain those skills learned three weeks after the intervention? Results showed that each participant showed an increase in their targeted behavior.
