This Curriculum Development project is based on the College and Career Readiness course taught to 9th grade students at University Heights High School, Bronx, NY. Students in this class are taught skills and content that help them navigate their high school and post-secondary educational options. As in many parts of the United States, University Heights High School has a substantial number of immigrant students, who along with their parents, lack a working knowledge of the American public school system. Often, these families are not properly integrated into the school system and are left to navigate it on their own. Statistically, a disproportionate amount end up not pursuing a college education as compared to their non-immigrant peers. The purpose of this project is to provide a more wholistic curriculum and approach for these students who have transitioned to New York from another country, and to provide additional college and career supports.
