Learning to read is an important skill that requires, skillful, strategic and thoughtful planning to successfully teach young children the foundations of reading. According to the National Assessment of Educational Process, a large percentage of fourth and eighth grade students are not performing at proficient levels for reading. When evaluating the percentage for students with disabilities, the percentage of students at proficient reading levels are disappointing with only 12% achieving satisfactory levels. Learning to read is of paramount importance, since it leads to future successes. Early intervention plays a vital role in the development of attaining early reading skills. As technology becomes integrated into schools and classrooms, the usage of mobile devices such as the iPad may be an effective intervention to help bridge the gap between early acquisition of early reading skills and literacy. The prevalence of technology in our society, has caused a shift in education to include the modern digital way students are learning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating technology through the use of iPad devices when delivering literacy instruction to children with mild-to-moderate disabilities participating in transitional Kindergarten to first grade programs. In this modern digital age, technology has shown promise with increasing student engagement and motivation thereby helping students increase work productivity.
