This quantitative study used the theory of Transformational Leadership (Bass & Avolio, 1995) and the theory of Commitment to Change (Herscovitch & Meyer, 2002), and the theological-biblical concept of transformational leadership and commitment to study the relationship of the Indonesian Evangelical pastors' transformational leadership and their followers' commitment to change in Indonesian church ministry.

The purposive sample were Indonesian Evangelical pastors who were the members of the Communion of Chinese Churches in Indonesia (COCCI) and were serving in the top-level leadership in the churches. The sample was 173 pastors, and 119 pastors' followers; which made 119 matched pairs of pastors and followers (raters). The instruments used were Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), the Commitment to Change Scale (CCS), and theological Integration Question Scale.

The result of the MLQ showed that Indonesian Evangelical pastors in general expressed higher transformational scores in all sub-scales than other leadership styles. The mean scores are: transformational leadership (M = 3.12), transactional leadership (M = 2.66), and the passive leadership (M = 0.87). The result from the CCS showed that the pastors' followers expressed higher normative commitment to change scores (M = 4.56) than other types of commitment to change. In general, followers had a fairly strong commitment to change in all types of commitments to change. The mean scores are: normative commitment to change (M = 4.56), affective commitment to change (M = 4.34), and continuance commitment to change (M = 4.06). The result showed that the followers' education has small effect to their affective commitment to change within the groups (eta2 = .033). The post-hoc test indicated that the "Bachelor and below" group had stronger influence to the affective commitment to change than the "Master and above" group. The effect size was medium (Cohen's d = 0.4). The study result also showed that pastors' intellectual stimulation had a small influence on the followers' normative commitment to change (r2 = .06).

The mean scores are: Role Model (M = 5.31), Vision (M = 5.23), Individual Concern (M = 4.81), Inspiration (M = 4.91), Christo-centrism (M = 5.23), Pater-familias (M = 5.12), Servant Leadership (M = 4.97), and Change Initiative (M = 5.04).

Regarding the main research question, there were some results found. First, the length of time in ministry have small effect on the pastors' transformational leadership (r = .019). The pastors with less than 10 years in ministry has more Idealized Influence Attributes (eta2 = 0.31) compared to those with 15 years and more. Second, the pastors' intellectual stimulation factor have a small effect on the followers' normative commitment to change (r2 = .06). Third, the pastors' visions have medium effect on the followers' commitment to change (eta 2 = .09).
