Visual activity schedules (VAS) include a series of images, pictures, photographs, or line drawings to sequence tasks or series of activities. The purpose of this study was to determine whether visual activity schedules can decrease prompt dependence and off-task behaviors. Three methods of data collection were used during this study: a task analysis of VAS, a behavior chart of the frequency of off-task behaviors, and anecdotal notes. Two students participated within this study. One student was diagnosed with autism and the other with down syndrome. The results revealed that the visual activity schedules reduced off-task behaviors and prompt dependence. Having the visual supports as an intervention helped increase engagement by breaking activities down into series of sequential events.
