School reform over several decades has prompted a dramatic shift in teacher evaluation and focused more attention on teacher growth and effectiveness (Marzano, Frontier, & Livingston, 2011). This paradigm shift has provided a framework for principals to connect teachers to professional development specifically designed to refine instructional effectiveness (Danielson, 2002; Iwanicki, 2001; Marshall, 2009; Marzano et al., 2011). In keeping with this shift of emphasis, the focus of this study was to examine principals' perspectives on post-observation feedback and the coaching methods utilized to facilitate the professional development of novice elementary teachers. A mixed-methods approach was used with the intention to gain an understanding of what principals consider purposeful feedback and effective coaching methods to achieve professional growth. The results showed a significant relationship between the post-observation feedback and coaching methods principals utilized to promote professional development and growth in teachers. The study provided useful information on how principals utilize coaching methods and post-observation feedback to help teachers achieve professional growth on the continuum of teacher effectiveness.
