Scriptural Reasoning (SR) is a distinct practice of interreligious engagement, at once philosophically and theologically warranted yet also simple enough in scope and method to be practiced in non-academic contexts. The literature on SR is diverse and rapidly expanding into exciting areas like pragmatism and hermeneutics. This dissertation charts a new path in SR studies, arguing that the practice of SR is fundamentally a form of (inter)religious education, a forum within which to learn from and alongside the Other. SR can gain a better sense of itself through attention to the literatures and trajectories of educational disciplines, such as the philosophically and pedagogically rich literatures of learning, dialogue, and havruta. To see SR as education is to see new avenues within which to investigate and practice it.
